Charlie's Africa

Charlie’s Africa

Charles Cornell Oliver Prout 20s Africa

There have been boxes of glass negatives in a cupboard in my home for just about as long as I can remember. They belonged to a guy my dad calls Uncle Charlie. All I really know is that his name was Charles Cornell, which I guess makes him my grandfather’s mother’s brother. He loved Africa and the people, and was a District Commissioner in 1930′s Kenya, where he was later shot and killed in a tribal conflict.

His cameras and negatives returned home where they sat in silence as they found their way from my grandfather to my father and eventually to me.

I thought it might be time to share them. There are far to many images for one post so I’ll spread them out. Over the next few days I hope to post the best of the images I have digitized.

This first post concerns his images of people.
